GEOGRAPHICALLY DISTRIBUTED TEAMS WITH UNIVERSITY OF DAYTON (OH) ON A SOCIAL-TECH PROJECT

January 2017 – During the second semester (August-Dec) 2017 I worked with Geographically distributed teams (Virtual teams) with Professor Malcolm Daniels and his students form the University of Dayton (Ohio). Since I do research on this area, we partnered a team from my Design and Systems Thinking Lab course with a team of their engineering students. Professor Daniels works with the ETHOS program, which entails a social purpose to the projects faced by young engineers. At the DILAB, we also run an education program (for empowerment in innovation, entrepreneurship and design) for technical rural schools that it’s called Savia Lab. We worked with a local teacher and students from one of these wonderful schools. During August to December, the engineers worked remotely on the project (using an anthro-design process and a bias on building a tech-based prototype). On January 2017, 3 of the UD students came to Chile. Together, with the Chilean team, they constructed the project down South. On May 2017, two other UD students visited the country and took data on the success of the project. On the DILAB side, I had 2 research students taking data on the teams’ work. I look forward to keep up with this collaboration!
